Just a thread for everyone to explain why their favourite artist is as such.
My favourite is pretty much a tie between patrick wolf, and 'the mars volta.' Patrick wolf: This man, is himself through and through. His music, genre bending, innovative, musically brilliant. Both fortunatly, and unfortunatly his music is not immediatly accessable, and will require a few listens for most. I cannot pin him to a genre. Sounds like: Nothing I've ever heard before, the music is not generally very fast. But he has his moments. For fans of: I'd like to say metro station, but i'm not sure. Lyrics, you have to be a fan of lyrics to enjoy this. Listen to: 'To the lighthouse.' ![]() I respect him greatly. He always comes across as a very intelligent and witty individual. The mars volta: It could have gone so, so wrong. But it went so right. With a huge range of tempo, dynamics, intrsuments, tones, voices. Artistically done musical clashing. These guys, are different. I don't think I can compare them to any other artists. Sounds like: every genre of music stuffed into a tennis ball, only to have that tennis ball be used at wimbledon. For fans of: From first to last with sonny in them. A.F.I a tiny bit. Listen to: Inertiatic Esp --------------- This, is why they are my favourite artists and I think that everyone should know about them. How about you? (Disclaimer: In my 'for fans of' section, i've used bands that people here are most likely to have hard of. So, they might not be very accurate. Also, remember, music is subjective, I find this brilliant, someone else might find it awful, I don't need flamed for it.) |

Probably tied between Tool and Behemoth Behemoth: They're brutal. They know how to play their intruments. They're just badass in general. I've met them before. They're pretty cool laidback and funny offstage. Members : Adam "Nergal" Darski, Tomasz "Orion" Wróblewski, Zbigniew Robert "Inferno" Promiński, Patryk Dominik "Seth"Sztyber. ![]() Next up. Tool: They're just geniuses. They're music is amazing and has inspired my greatly. They sound like nothing else I have ever heard. They're abunch of cool laidback really funny guys also. Definetly people I want to meet. Members: Danney Carey, Justin Chancellor, Maynard James Keenan, Adam Jones

My favorite band in Flyleaf.
Because they are different from pretty much every band and very original. 1.They are heavy music with a girl lead singer. 2.She can scream hehe 3.They care about their music and her fans. I cant really explain all of that but its awesome. 4.Their music has alot of meaning. 5.And most importantly they save peoples lives. They have stopped people from killing themselves just form being introduced to their music and knowing about Lacey. Lacey has had an amazing life and has been better from it and everything. Cause she almost killed herself. So thats why they're my heroes. Lacey Mosley, Sameer Battacharya, James Culpepper, Patrick Seals, Jared Hartman. ![]() This is her life story is anyone cares. http://youtube.com/watch?v=MP2hJqtBEjI Wow im sorry, I didnt mean for it to be that big...lol |

My all time favorite artist would have to be Fiona Apple. She is incredible. Her words are deep and music profound, it touched me. She is also very damaged and it makes me relate to her even more. At the same time, a lot of her songs are playful and provacative and fun to play on piano and guitar. I just love her. She's such a talented piano player as well and writes very musically advanced pieces, but the things that sets her apart the most in my mind is definitely her song writing. My favorite songs by her are:
Paper Bag Fast As You Can Oh Sailor Criminal The First Taste Sullen Girl A Mistake "I've aquired quite a taste, for a well made mistake..." "Full is not heavy as empty, not nearly my love not nearly." |

Okay. So I finally find myself with a little more spare time.
![]() My favorite band (for about four or five years now) is Nine Inch Nails. I really didn't start getting into industrial music until 2001-2002. I picked up copies of The Fragile and The Downward Spiral, and over the course of the next few months, listened to those albums almost non-stop. Going back through Trent's catalog, it's amazing to see what he has done. Starting with Pretty Hate Machine, he brought the genre onto the main stage. Up until that point, the big names had been Skinny Puppy, Coil, SPK, Front 242, Throbbing Gristle, KMFDM and a number of others. NIN was responsible for taking industrial music, reshaping it into a new and unique sound and distributing it on a massive scale. All of that is neither here nor there. The music is what's really impressive. Every full-length album has its own unique feel and tone. This was a trend that started with Pretty Hate Machine and Broken and continues even with The Slip. Trent's exploration of different sounds and themes made the music into a creature of its own. This is most apparent in The Downward Spiral. The backing line to "The Becoming" still sends chills up my spine whenever I hear it, and the contrasting cacophony of "Reptile" and the gentle desperation of "A Warm Place" make listening to this album seem like a journey across a sonic and emotional landscape. It ends with "Hurt"; a song whose influence is impossible to deny. It has been covered by artists like Johnny Cash and Sevendust, as well as re-imagined in a different context by others such as Westside Connection. That was all fourteen years ago. Today, NIN has continued to pave the way in the music world. After his contract with Interscope was up, Trent went completely independent. Since then he has released the instrumental albums Ghosts I-IV for free over the net, as well as his latest album The Slip. If you haven't downloaded these album, stop reading this post and go fucking do it. When you get Ghosts...just lay down, turn out the lights and hit play. You won't regret it. Twenty-years strong and the concerts still sell out in minutes. I hope to whatever god is out there that I make it to the Lights in the Sky tour...the visuals are unfuckingbelievable and most of the sets have been lasting 2.5 hours or more. That is the definition of fucking epic. Well, I've tossed my hat into the ring...however scattered my meanderings may seem (I have a damned summer cold), so take it for what it's worth and get out there and listen to some real music. I demand it of you Oh yeah...my close runner up to NIN would have to be Tool, and that's a story for another day. |

My all time favorite artist is Jeff Buckley. He's known by a good number of people but It seems they only know hallelujah which is a shame because he had way better songs and hallelujah didn't reflect the true talents he had. He's my favorite artist because his music feels real.Sure he was a major label artist and had a million dollar contract even before having one album but you can feel his music. His album wasn't a catchy rock album. It was a work of art which is why many fans fell in love with his music only after listening to him repeatedly. The fact his songs were 5 minutes and more dented his popularity since radio stations hate playing long songs.
I love his music because I can connect emotionally to the music when I listen to it.Sure I love other artists and their music is just as good as jeff's but what gives him the edge is the emotional connection.Certainly can help during breakups lol but yeah,he should be a rock legend but now, only a cult idol.No his death didn't give his legacy a boost.Kurt Cobain's did but Jeff's.I write more but I rather not turn you against him lol. |

I have to say my absolute favorite band in the whole world is The Killers.
Now most people I tell this to are like 'Ha! you probably only heard Mr. Brightside, Somebody Told Me, When You Were Young, and Shadowplay.' But alas, I have all of their albums and have follwed them from the very beginning of their musical career. Their music inspires me. I can relate to it and seeing how it is musically done sends chills down my spine! I'm in band at school, I'm also a bassist, so I know a crap load about music and just listening to their music baffles me. I know most of you are thinking 'good god, what the heck is up with this chick', but I completely agree with you. I think being such a musical person makes me understand it more, but the more I understand the less I really do(if that makes sense at all) But to me from folowing the Killers for such a long time, I can see how they've really grown and matured as a band. Hot Fuss- they were like a new little boy band having a kick ass time. Sam's Town- They grew to be more serious and focused, kinda like when we grow older into that stage where we're still a teenager and we're learning how to be an adult. Sawdust- to me it was like the movement of being a guy and becomeing a man. I don't know if I make anysense at all so I'm sorry if I just sound like a dumb ass over here, but mosic gets me very worked up. Anyways.... I just straight out love this band, and if anyone were to ask me what my favorite song was my them, I honestly couldn't give you an answer. But I love them because I can connect with their music and I can see them as the musicians they are. And all you lovely people have a wonderful day! (music makese me happy =P) |

I respect Flyleafs music because of the lyrics and the root of those lyrics. But also because the music has to do with that and i think they create amazing songs. I wouldnt listen to them if i didnt like their songs. |
