This was an old suggestion I found while rooting through this zone. I've brought this forth to admins in the past, with a few other things I found, and have basically been said that yes we think it's a good idea. No-one however, seems to want to run it and it's one of those things that yet again, nothing is being done about.

So, I propose to start running this.

Whats the idea? New members are "adopted" by older members of the community who show them the ropes, chat to them a little bit, hopefully welcome them to the forums. The goal, obviously, is to have more new members staying around and becoming 'established' members who stick around, helping the forums to become more active.

What seems to make people stick around here is the people and building friendships with other members, as well as actually participating in threads. I hope that this might encourage more of that, and give the forum some new blood.

What I suggested originally was that an approved list of members would be the adopted parents, meaning they can definitely adopt a newb. I think that logistically speaking, that might be a little difficult to organise, so what I'm suggesting now instead, is that should the idea go ahead, anyone who is interested PMs me, and I list their name, with an option to PM in a new thread in the newbies section for new members to see straight off, as that's usually the first section they visit.

What do you guys think? If interested, please do post so we know for numbers who might do it.

I was hoping to wait until I had finished my degree, and was stuck into my career before my first adoption (I fire blanks). Sounds okay. Sure as fuck not adopting a self harming emo.

Since I am new, if someone wants to adopt me for a time, I don't mind. I'd like to learn the ropes more.

I've approved some of your posts I think. The guy from New York, right? I think I replied to one of your posts in jealousy of your hometown. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions - how're you finding the forums so far? smile.gif

Only if the newb happens to be a young, undeveloped philipino boy.

Yeah, you have Jess.

I like it here so far. As for probably most of the members here, I'm here to build friendships with others. Regarding all the technical stuff about this place, such as using the PM system and things like that, I've posted in other forums which use this kind of software. You'll see me a lot in the poem/prose subforum here. I love to write, and I look forward to the constructive criticism, and since I am an English major, it'd be nice to read other peoples' stuff.

I went through this entire sub-forum, and I think I have a hang about how this place operates.

Jealousy huh? Yeah, I get that from people who aren't from New York. New York City is one of my favorite cities, plus many cool bands have come from Long Island, where I'm from. Bayside, Taking Back Sunday, From Autumn to Ashes, Brand New, Diffuser (from my home-town actually) They're others, just escaping me right now.

I'm already doing this with the member Jesse Jizz, only because I see her at school everyday and I showed he EC. She has learnt a few things from me already =] I think this will be a good idea only if the newb is going to be using Ec for good. Most of the new members post a few times then leave.

I agree with the majority in the sense that I think it would help keep new members around and is therefore a good idea, and that I would be interested in participating. smile.gif

^ It was. A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away.

As a matter of interest, Why Not? I think it would be an idea to put together people in the same timezones..
