Ok, I can see both sides here.
I propose we lock the thread for two weeks and see what happens. As mods, we relax our take on spam threads in the hangout during this time and see what effect it has. It won't hurt either way really. Members will post their spammy updates in separate threads and perhaps incite discussion, if no-ones interested the threads die.
